Death Payments

When a member dies before retiring from the Plan, the funds in their account are paid to whomever the person has named as beneficiary of the account. When you join SPP you name a beneficiary for your account. The beneficiary can be changed at anytime prior to your death.

If you die after you retire, death benefits depend on the retirement option you choose. Each of SPP's annuities treat death payments differently. Your entitlement to pension payments stops the month after you die. For example, when someone dies in March, he or she is not eligible for pension in April.

Applications for death benefits are available from SPP and most funeral homes in Saskatchewan. Other documents will be required along with the completed application. Please contact SPP for the documents that apply to your situation.
